Ayurveda and Holy month of Shravan



Impotence of Shravan month according to Ayurveda -

WHY FASTING??

Shravana month comes in Monsoon Season where there is less sunlight thus effects digestive system to function weakly. so people will eat less on the name of fasting.

The main aim of fasting is to detoxify and to learn self control. So while you are observing fasts, include a proper diet your body become more energetic and healthy.

Water Borne diseases will spread rapidly in this month.Fasting will boost the immunity system to prevent diseases.

The inner meaning is eat less and live more.

According to Ayurveda, mind will more unstable in this season due to vata imbalance in the body hence these holy festivals came to existence and by spirituality one can control mind and achieve balance mentally as well as physically.

WHY BILVA??

The science of Ayurveda values the Bilva highly for the medicinal properties contained in its root, fruit and leaves. it is a healing tree which cures all diseases caused by vata (wind) and gives strength to the body.

Bel fruit clears water born diseases -diarrhea, dysentry, phlegm, high blood pressure, morning sickness in pregnancy, stress which is common in this month of shravan.

Bilva leaves is significant of three mamas dosha, ie Stva, Rajas and Tamas. According to Ayurveda It have healing properties which can treat jaundice, asthma, skin problem which are common in this monsoon season.

WHY PEOPLE POUR MILK ON SHIVLING??

During the month of Shravan, the Vata dosha of a person gets higher in proportion.
During that period, a person must avoid food that increases the Vata component.

For example, green leafy vegetable contain higher amounts of Vata in them.
Thus a person is asked to avoid them during the rainy season (especially Shravan month) to avoid the ailments caused due to excess of Vata.

During the rainy season, the cattle also eat lots of grass, and hence their milk is high in Vata and, in modern times, is suspectable to viral infections.

Thus, milk is considered harmful during the Shravan month
Thus Ayurved advises us against consuming milk during Shravan. And so milk is poured on shivling during this phase.

Another reason to pour milk on shigling in shravan is -

Aagya Chakra is the main seat of Shiva and the entrance to the Sahasrar Chakra. Sahasrar Chakra is in the head where the treasure of pleasure is there.

In leading our lives with all the desires, stress, illness, etc and other ageing factors these five elements go out of balance.

 When we pour water at the Shivling  while remembering Shiva, in a subtle way we take our water element which is dirty and pour it on Shiva in our Aagya Chakra. Water element inside us encompasses our energies in it. These two important chakra are directly connected. When water is being poured on Shivlinga, we have two things in our mind, water and Shiva. Though we are worshipping Shiva at a physical level, but in effect we are worshipping him inside at a subtle level. The moment we think Shiva with water combination, water element energy starts going up towards Shiva in Aagya Chakra. As a result of this upward energy movement, our thinking purifies and gets an uplift. Now after water is poured, it comes down and goes to the earth element in physical Shivling and at the same time in Mooladhar Chakra at the subtle level in our physical body. When the purified water with Shiva energy comes back and washes the Mooladhar Chakra or Earth element it cools down and gives purified energy and light of consciousness to that chakra. This results in good mental and physical health.

And due to this reason Ayurveda science advise "shirodhara" panchkarma therapy to reduce stress and stress induced diseases...!!!

One spiritual reason to pour milk or water on shivling is-

Where ever Shivling is established and worshipped, it cleans the whole atmosphere. The bad energy in the atmosphere travels through the Shivling and gets cleaned. The energy is hot.
When the energy becomes dirty, it becomes more hot. When these hot energies are continuously passing through the Shivling, it becomes hot, so we need to continuously keep pouring the water to keep it cool.
When the Shivling is cool, it is more effective doing its work of purification. This gives way to bringing more light of consciousness to micro (individual) and macro (earth) levels.

Have a happy shravan month. May lord Shiv strengthen our health by all means.

किसका पेट भरना चाहते है?
हाजमोला ? कायम चूर्ण ? नित्यम चूर्ण ???
जैसा नाम वैसा काम। जो दवाई कायम - नित्य (हररोज ) लेनी पड़े क्या वो सही मायने में लाभकारी है ?
वो तो कुछ भी कहेंगे , जो मन चाहे वो खाओ - कितना भी खाओ …हम आपका हाजमा ठीक करेंगे !!! क्या खाक ठीक करेंगे !!!
आयुर्वेद कहता है की हर एक मनुष्य की पाचन क्षमता उसकी प्रकृति के अनुसार भिन्न भिन्न होती है। सुबह से शाम तक मजदुरी करनेवाला आदमी ६-१० रोटी आसानी से हजम कर सकता है , परन्तु बैठ कर ऑफिस वर्क करनेवाला मनुष्य क्या ८ रोटी हजम कर पायेगा ? बिलकुल नहीं …!
कौनसा भोजन कितनी मात्रा में लेना ये हमारे कार्य के अनुसार / व्यायाम के अनुसार / कितनी ऊर्जा व्यतीत करते हैं- उसके आधार पे तय करना आवश्यक है। सब कुछ खाकर हाजमा चूर्ण खाने से बेहतर है की जितना हजम कर सकते उतना ही भोजन लें।

મને ઊંઘ ખુબ આવે છે ...

" મને ઊંઘ ખુબ આવે છે ... બગાસા જ આવ્યા આવ્યા કરે ને કામ કરવાનું જ મન નથી થતું ડોક્ટર ..."
" મારું બાળક (બાળક 25 વર્ષ નું પણ હોય હો ) આખો દિવસ સોફા-પલંગ પર સુતું જ હોય છે ,
જમવાનું -ભણવાનું પણ સુતા સુતા...! બહુ થાક લાગે છે એને..." 
" ડોકટર , હમણાં હમણાં થી વજન વધી ગયું છે ,આળસ આવે છે અને માસિક પણ અનિયમિત થઇ ગયું છે ...
- આવી તકલીફ ઘણા પેશન્ટ અને તેમના સંબંધીઓ કરતા હોય છે. માત્ર મોટી ઉમર ના જ વ્યક્તિઓ નહિ પરંતુ નાના બાળકો કે યંગ કહેવાય એવા પેશન્ટ પણ આ પ્રશ્ન પૂછતા હોય છે.
જનરલી આ બાબત ને આમતો આપને નજર અંદાઝ જ કરતા રહીએ છીએ.
પરંતુ અમુક સમય વીત્યા બાદ -અપચન , વજન વધવું , કામ કર્યા વગર થાક અનુભવવો , થોડુક કામ કરવાથી શ્વાસ ફુલાવો , આળસ ,
સુવાનું જ મન થયા કરે , કંઈ કામ ના સુજે , બહેનોને માસિક માં તકલીફો આવ્યા કરે , બાળક અસામન્ય રીતે મેદસ્વી થયા કરે ,
વગેરે વગેરે લક્ષણો શરીર માં જણાય એટલે -
- આ કંઈક ખોટું થઇ રહ્યું છે આપણા શરીર માં એવું ફિલ થાય....!!!
હા , આ બાબત ખરેખર ગંભીર છે , ગંભીરપણે લેવી જોઈએ.
આયુર્વેદ મુજબ શરીર માં કફ અને મેદ વિકૃત રીતે વધવાથી અને તેની જોડે 'તમ ' માનસિક ગુણ ની દોસ્તી થવાથી કે સતત સુતા રહેવાની શરીર ને આદત પડવાથી વધારે આળસ અને સુવાની ઈચ્છા થતી હોય છે , આ સાથે વિકૃત મેદ ધાતુ શરીર ને પૂર્ણ પોષણ મળતું અટકાવી દે છે. આથી શરીર વધારે ફિક્કું અને નિસ્તેજ થવા લાગે છે.
આ માટે ના ઉપાય એટલે પચવામાં હળવા - સુપાચ્ય ખોરાક જ લેવો. અથવા જ્યાં સુધી ભૂખ ના લાગે ત્યાં સુધી જમવું નહીં , માત્ર ગરમ કરી ઠંડુ કરેલ - નવશેકું પાણી પીતા રહેવું.
આ સિવાય આયુર્વેદ ઉપચાર નિષ્ણાત વૈદ્યડોકટર ની સલાહ અનુસાર પાચન સુધારણા ની યોગ્ય દવાઓ , શરીર ને પોષણ મળે એનું આયોજન ,વમન -રક્તમોક્ષણ જેવા પંચકર્મ ઉપચાર થી આવી તકલીફો માં ચોક્કસ સારું થઇ જાય છે.

Mango - a King of Fruits in Summer


Well, summer is on its peak, n we all knows that this is time to relish the gr8 taste of King of fruit MANGO.

Ayurveda also mentioned so many benefits of Mangoes in ancient texts.

पक्वं तु मधुरं वृष्यं बल सुख्प्रदं I 
गुरु वातहरं ह्रद्यं वर्ण्यं  शितम पित्तलं I
कषाय अनुरसं वन्हि श्लेष्म शुक्र विवर्धनं II


as said in Sanskrit, 
Ripe Mango fruit is best to eat. It sweet in taste, acts as aphrodisiac, Give stamina to body, good for ur heart, Good in Vata dosha diseases, Makes skin glowing and lustrous, improve digestive fire, coolant, and increase the quantity n quality of semen also.

Its rule that mango should be ripe by itself on tree, not manually. And organic Mango is best one now a days.

It contain Vitamine A, B, D and C. Also contain citric acid and gatic acid.
If you consume unripe mango / Green mango then it increase your digestive fire, it increases Vata and Pitta dosha. It increase dryness in body and if consuming more, it can develope blood and skin diseases, fever, eye problems. People used to consume green mango by various methods, Aachar/Pickle of green mango is very famous in India, its of two types- Sweet and Sour. 

In summer, juice of green mango is beneficial for body as its coolant and gives lots of stamina to body. Mango juice Recipe is known as "Panna" in India, Its given in my another post also,see- "Raw mango dish - Aam Panna"

Green mango dreid undr sun rays n make fine powder of it.Its called Aamchur. Its very tasty, increase your appetite,digest your food and good for constipation also. But it should be taken after recommendation of your Ayurveda doctor.

Mango juice is heavy in digestion, but good for the body.

Ayurveda mentioned n the texts to take sweet mango with milk.Its good for body as aphrodisiac, immunity booster. Gives stamina to the body, makes ur skin good n shiny.
Every part of Mangoes have different medicinal values. its fruit, seeds, skin, bark or anything ...every part is used as medicines in Ayurveda.
Here im not going to discuss medical part of them, Just you enjoy the Mango in this season and gather the stamina for next whole year.The Mango is very good fruit so relish its taste and Enjoy the summer. Have a happy n healthy summer.

Relish with Raw Mango Dish (AAM PANNA)


As we all knows that Mango is King of All Fruits.
We usually eat ripe mango as it have delicious taste and great properties of Vitamin and Anti oxidants.
But In India people used to make a very special of its kind of Dish of Raw Mango.
Its called "Panna" in India.As Ayurveda also suggest this drink to consume in Summer to beat the Heat.If you drink a glass of this dis everyday i m sure you will not fall ill in summer.As it have great vitamine properties, Full of antioxidants, It acts on Urinary tract, Gastro intestinal tract and make u very very healthy in the summer.
Its lovely refreshing drink with cooling effects,contain balance of electrolytes,it quenches thirst and prevent loss of electrolytes in the heat,  good as blood purifier also, effective as home remedy for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
This drink is good for our immune systems, Prevent so many diseases and acts as a very good tonic in the summer.
Lets see how we can make it at home--->>>
- Take 3 Medium sized green Mangoes.
- Pressure cook the mangoes for 8 o 10 mins. (or another way is to cook the mangoes in microwave / or u can roast the whole mangoes over an open flame,till the skin get charred,n the flesh is soft)
- Now Peel the skin and remove the pulp of mangoes, discard the seeds.
- Use a hand blender and blend the pulp. Don’t make a complete puree of it. Allow some of the pulp to be there for that natural, fresh pulpy feeling.
- Pour into a vessel. Add sugar as per taste, Black salt, Freshly roasted and ground cumin powder n blend it till smooth.(you can mix 2 spoon of the herb UShir / Vala / Viteveria  zizanioedis in it to have gr8 taste,aroma n more health benefits)
- Once you have mixed the sugar and the spices, taste it if anything is required, add them else you can pour this into clean bottles and store in the refrigerator.
- You can store the extra pulp in the refrigerator up to 5-7 days in an airtight glass or plastic container.
- Add 4-5 tbsps in a tall glass, some cold water to top it up. Throw in a few cubes of ice and garnish with mint leaves and Enjoy a cool and refreshing healthy drink.

Dangerous Chemicals that we apply everyday


It's a love affair that's been going on for centuries. And no wonder. There's nothing like a new lipstick or favourite perfume to make us look and feel good. Or so we thought... In fact, according to a new report, most of our favourite cosmetics are cocktails of industrially produced and potentially dangerous chemicals that could damage our health and, in some cases, rather than delivering on their potent 'anti-ageing' promise, are causing us to age faster.

Research by Bionsen, a natural deodorant company, found that the average woman's daily grooming and make-up routine means she 'hosts' a staggering 515 different synthetic chemicals on her body every single day.

any of those are also used in products such as household cleaners, and have been linked to a number of health problems from allergies and skin sensitivity to more serious hormonal disturbances, fertility problems and even cancer. Parabens, for example, which are designed to preserve the shelf-life of your cosmetics, are one of the most widely used preservatives in the world, and are found in shampoos, hair gels, shaving gels and body lotions.

But their use is becoming increasingly controversial - a range of different studies has linked them to serious health problems including breast cancer, as well as fertility issues in men. Research from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine suggests that some parabens we had previously presumed to be safe, such as Methylparaben, may mutate and become toxic when exposed to sunlight, causing premature skin ageing and an increased risk of skin cancer. Methylparabens are found in more than 16,000 products, including moisturisers and toothpastes. Cosmetic producers have always defended their use of parabens on the grounds that they can't be absorbed into the body. But many leading researchers disagree, including Dr Barbara Olioso, an independent professional chemist, who says: 'Research shows that between 20 and 60 per cent of parabens may be absorbed into the body.'

There are a number of laws designed to protect us from dangerous chemicals in cosmetics, but researchers worry that they don't go far enough.
The Cosmetic Toiletries and Perfumery Association said : 'Stringent laws require all cosmetics to be safe, and each product undergoes a rigorous safety assessment. The number of ingredients in a product, or whether it is natural or man-made, has no bearing on how safe it is.'
They also say that any chemicals are present in safe doses that can't harm us. While that may be true, there is some disagreement over what constitutes a 'safe' level - for young people and children, or sensitive adults, these levels may not be so safe at all. And even if the relatively small amounts in individual products don't hurt us, there is growing concern over the number of products women use daily, and the cumulative effect of so many chemicals being used all over our bodies every day, for many years. As Charlotte Smith, spokesperson for Bionsen, says: 'Women have never been more image-conscious and their beauty regimes have changed over the years, from a simple "wash & go" attitude, to daily fake-tan applications, regular manicures, false lashes and hair extensions. 'Lots of the high-tech, new generation cosmetics and beauty "wonder" treatments naturally contain more chemicals to achieve even better results, which, of course, means women apply more chemicals than ever before.' If you want to protect yourself from chemical overload, reduce your overall cosmetics usage; switch to natural or organic products, and read the labels on your beauty and grooming products with care.

Ayurveda Treatments for skin Diseases--->>>   
The holistic management of health problems in ayurved comprises the three fold scientific approach towards diseases through diet, lifestyle and medicine.
Ayurveda has stated that skin diseases occur primarily due to sluggish liver function, which leads Pitta and Kapha Dosha dysfunction when toxins build up and the liver is overwhelmed, then the impurities show up in break-outs and other skin problems.
Another vital factor that contributes to healthy appearance is the clean bowel: hence the need for regular and complete bowel evacuation. In order to achieve this, a mild laxative like Trifala and a light diet are advisable if one suffers from constipation.

Effects of Stress on Skin
There are three types of stress, and all three impact the skin in different ways.

Mental stress starts a chain reaction that ends in a drying out the moisture in the skin. Thinning, dryness and the shrinking of the 'shrotasa' (microchannels) that carry nutritive fluid to the skin result in wrinkles and stress lines.

Emotional stress also affects the skin-just notice how anger or embarrassment can turn your face red. This shows the connection between emotions and the skin. If emotional stress becomes chronic, the result is acne, sun sensitivity, and other Pitta-based problems.

Physical stress: Exercising too much, working too much, or straining the body over a period of time causes physical stress. This causes the drying out of skin moisture and rough, aged skin.
To counteract mental stress, maintain a Vata-pacifying diet and daily routine. To bring emotional stress into balance, follow a Pitta-pacifying diet and routine. For physical stress, try to limit exercise or work to fifty percent of your physical stamina.

Scientifically treatments have been classified as shodhana & shamana.

Shodhan Treatment- 
When doshas are vitated in large guantity & disease is chronic then shodhan chikitsa should apply first.
Acharyas have classified shodhana as Basti, Vaman, Virechana, Raktamokshana (Blood letting) & nasya.
Shaman Treatment-
When doshas are minimally imbalanced & the body is weak. Shaman Treatment is more important.
Shaman treatment can be classified as external & internal.
Administration of proper food, medicines by mouth is internal treatment & the application of medicated oil, lepo (ointment), etc is external treatment.


Some homemade remedies for your skin -->>
For Acne & Pimples ---
  •  A paste made from one teaspoon each of sandalwood powder and turmeric mixed with milk, is very good. A paste of nutmeg and water is also beneficial.
  •  Half a cup of aloe vera pulp can be taken internally (Do not take internally if pregnant) or applied externally to the skin. Dosage: Twice a day.
  •  Before going to bed, was the face thoroughly and then apply a paste of 1 Tsp. coriander juice mixed with a pinch of turmeric powder.
  •  For pimples, apply a paste made from one teaspoon of cumin seeds. Remove after one hour.
  •  A paste of fresh fenugreek leaves, applied and washed off with warm water before going to bed prevents pimples.
For Pigmentation ---
  • Grind five almonds and mix with 1 teaspoon of fresh cream and a few drops of lemon juice. Apply this paste to the face and neck. Leave on for about fifteen minutes.

  • Grind equal amounts of sesame seeds and turmeric in a small quantity of

  • Make a paste from basil (tulsi) leaves and water to use on the affected skin
For Premature Aging---
  • Massage the face with ghee, almond oil or coconut oil before going to bed.
  •  Use grated cucumber in a face pack.
  • Apply fresh aloe Vera gel to the skin
